Top Animated Movie Preview – 2017

Just as in previous years 2017 promises to be a huge year for popular movies, especially those that will spin-off a range of toys for kids and adults.  Let’s take a quick look at what you can expect in the Animated movie category for the coming year.

The Lego Batman Movie

lego-batman-movieThe Lego company is now pumping out movies that leverage their classic building toys.  This movie successfully mixes the action of the Batman franchise with the fun of the Lego toys.  Having been released earlier this year we already know that this movie is a big hit with kids and we can expect a range of related toys to appear in time for Christmas. (February Release)

Leap!

An orphan girl dreams of becoming a ballerina.  She flees her rural Brittany and heads for Paris where she passes for someone else and rises to the position of pupil at the Grand Opera house.  The talented Elle Fanning voices the lead role in this beautifully-produced tale. (March Release)

The Boss Baby

Alec Baldwin takes a break from imitating Donald Trump and plays the suit-wearing briefcase-carrying boss baby who teams up with his seven-year old brother to stop the evil plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.  Other big stars can be heard in this movie such as Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Tobey McGuire.  This already-released movie is making waves and filling the theaters. Smurfs: The Lost Village

The Smurfs are up to their old tricks in this adventure movie where we find Smurfette and her friends using a mysterious map to race through the Forbidden Forest towards the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history.  Expect requests for lots of little blue toys this holiday season from the little ones. (April Release)

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

The books series that has been cracking up kids for years is now hitting the big screen for the very first time.  The movie features two imaginative pranksters who hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a enthusiastic yet dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.  Hilarity ensues.  Real-life funny-guys Jordan Peele and Kevin Hart lead the cast of this laughter. (June Release)

Cars 3

Kids are eagerly anticipating the third installment of the movie that spawned a whole “Land” in Disney California Adventures theme park.  Lightning McQueen returns to prove to a new generation of racers that he’s still the best race car in the world. (June Release)

Despicable Me 3

They’re baaaaack.  Gru meets his twin brother Dru he never knew about. (June Release)

Blazing Samurai

Expect to hear the voices of top stars in this fun-looking movie, with the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Michael Cera, and even the fan-favorites Mel Brooks and George Takei.  A samurai hopes to make his dreams come true but he must survive challenge after challenge to defeat his enemies. (August Release)

The Nut Job 2

Will Arnett reprises his role of Surly in this sequel about how the friends try to stop Oakton City’s mayor from destroying their home to make way for a unnecessary amusement park. (August Release)

Other Movies This Fall

The Lego Ninjago Movie – Six young ninjas are tasked with defending their island home, using their skills and awesome vehicles to fight villains and monsters. (September)

My Little Pony – Follow the ponies of Ponyville on an adventure to save their home. (October)

Coco – Highly anticipated Disney Pixar release. (November)

Ferdinand – A bull with a big heart is mistaken for a dangerous beast and is captured and torn from his home. He leads a misfit team on an adventure to help him return to his family. (December)
