Star Wars Toys for 2016

We are in the midst of a multi-year refresh of the Star Wars franchise.  Disney is now firmly in charge, and a host of new characters have been introduced in episode 7 (The Force Awakens), released in 2015.  The next chronological Star Wars movie is scheduled for release in last 2017, although there will be an interim movie called Rogue One.  This movie is a prequel which is set in the Star Wars universe shortly before the events of A New Hope (episode IV).

It’s a good time to take a look at some of the new Star Wars toys that are available for all different age groups.

TIE Fighter LEGO Kit

LEGO TIE Fighter Kit

LEGO TIE Fighter Kit

Of the many LEGO Star Wars sets that you can choose from we are attracted to the TIE Fighter kit.  It is a bit advanced, with over 500 pieces and rated for kids ages 8-14.  When built the TIE fighter is 9″ tall, 7″ long and 7″ wide.  This set is more apt to be displayed on a shelf rather than played with, but that shelf will look really cool with this sitting on it.

Millennium Falcon Quadcopter

Millenium Falcon Quadcopter

Millennium Falcon Quadcopter

For the Star Wars fan who has everything – check out this Millennium Falcon Quadcopter.  This quadcopter has four rotors hidden in the body of the space ship.  It may not have the handling of other more expensive quadcopters, but it is one of the coolest we’ve seen.

Star Wars Plushes

There are a number of small Stars Wars plushes that we think smaller kids would really like.

Chewbacca Deformed Plush

Chewbacca Deformed Plush

This Chewbacca plush is 7″ tall and has a big head and little feet – which means it is super cute.

Darth Vader Plush and Throw

Darth Vader Plush and Throw

This is a neat combo (and for not a lot of money). The Darth Vader plush is about 12 inches tall, and he is holding a Star Wars throw that is 40″x50″ – a nice size.  And Finally:

Ewok Plush

Star Wars Rebellion Game

Star Wars Rebellion Game

Star Wars Rebellion Game

Right off the bat – this is a game for teenagers and adults.  In the Star Wars Rebellion game you, as the Empire, have overwhelming forces and your goal is to find the rebel base and destroy it. Planet after planet will fall to your might, but can you find the rebel base in time?

The Rebellion game can take 3-4 hours to play, and the reviews describe a very positive experience.  Replayability is very good.  The game is a bit pricey, but it is an engaging game that will keep your kids away from the video consoles for hours.

Chewbacca + Furby = Furbacca

furbacca-furby

Furbacca

What could be better than a cross between a classic Furby doll and the big dude from Star Wars – Chewbacca himself?  We present to you Furbacca, a really unique interactive toy that also can work with the Furbacca mobile app.  You can create adventures and scenes from the Star Wars universe.

Rated for ages 6 and up.

Hot Kid’s Board Games in 2016

Kid’s love games – and not just video games.  There’s a part of every kid that just want to have some interactive fun with other kids, whether it involves a controller, some cards, or a handful of dice.  Speaking of which we’ve picked a handful of games for younger kids that we think will keep them laughing for a while.

Pie Face Game

pie_face_game

Hasbro’s Pie Face Game

This is not your typical “take your turn and roll the dice” board game.  In Hasbro’s Pie Face game you or your kids might get a little messy (or just wet if you choose to use a wet sponge instead of whipped cream).  There’s not much to it, but it’s all great fun.  The players take turns cranking the crank until someone is unlucky enough to trigger the hand and get a faceful of … something.  Just don’t forget the paper towels.

Recommended ages: 5 and up.

Exploding Kittens

Exploding Kittens Card Game

Exploding Kittens Card Game

As the package says this game is for “people who like kittens and explosions and laser beams, and sometimes goats”.  Well what could be better than that.  In the Exploding Kittens card game players draw cards until they draw the Exploding Kitten, at which point they are out of the game … but not if they have the Defuse card.  There are a lot of other wild and strange cards such as laser pointers, belly rubs, and catnip sandwiches.  This game was one of the top earning games to have been listed on the fund-raising site Kickstarter.  So why not give it a try.

UPDATE: Also check out the Exploding Kittens expansion pack called Imploding Kittens, to be released in October (you can pre-order before October).

Recommended ages: 7 and up.

Stinky Pig Game

Stinky Pig Game

Stinky Pig Game

The Stinky Pig Game is pretty much like “hot potato”, but with a gassy pig.  That’s right – you pass this pig to one of your fellow players until the unlucky player is stuck with a pig that … toots.  Okay – FARTs.  It’s an affordable little oinker of a game, it’s very popular on Amazon.com, and kids as young as 6 can play.

Recommended ages: 6 and up
